Mystic’s Williams shares 2022 Meredith Poetry Prize

January 11. 2022 - New London Day

The 2022 William Meredith Award for Poetry is shared by Mystic's Christie Max Williams for his upcoming collection "The Wages of Love" and Anne Harding Woodworth of Washington, D.C., for her compilation "Trouble," the William Meredith Foundation announced Monday.

Though Williams is well known in the region as an actor, poet and former longtime director of the Arts Café Mystic, "The Wages of Love," coming soon from Antrim House, is his first book of poetry.

An awards ceremony is tentatively scheduled for July 15 at the Bulgarian Embassy in Washington, D.C. Meredith, who died in 2007, was an Uncasville resident and U.S. Poet Laureate from 1978 to 80. The Meredith Prize was established in 2012 by the foundation created in his name to honor exemplary contributions to poetry.

The winners were chosen by Richard Harteis, director of the Meredith Foundation, and the group's board of directors. Details on the ceremony will be released later.
